Defective Weighing Scales Crack Down on Public Market: Ensuring Fair Trade for Consumers.

Cagayan de oro City – Let’s talk about something important: those scales in public markets. The ones that weigh your fruits, veggies, and all that good stuff, well, here’s the thing: some of them might not be showing the correct weight.

Apparently, some vendors are using tampered scales to cheat people out of their hard-earned money.  They’re making it look like you’re getting more than you actually are, and pocketing the difference.  This isn’t just unfair, it’s downright dishonest for consumers, especially those who are making ends meet going to public markets hoping to buy cheaper goods than what’s sold in supermarkets and malls.

In recent news, the DTI MisOr and CDOCPCC joined forces to destroy 27 confiscated faulty scales on November 10th. The agency is sending a clear message that unfair practices won’t be tolerated in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City.

To increase consumers’ confidence, the Cagayan de Oro City Economic Enterprises and Business Development Administration (CEEBDA) conduct regular inspections of public markets to ensure fair trade practices. Defective weighing scales are confiscated and destroyed on the same day, preventing vendors from using them to cheat consumers.

However, there may still be vendors who will take advantage of the holiday rush, knowing buyers are in a hurry and not vigilant of the accuracy of what they pay for. But there are ways to protect yourself from these shady practices.  Here are a few tips from Marketmind Local :

    1. Be a detective: Look for signs of tampering, like uneven surfaces, loose parts, or anything that just looks suspicious. ️
    2. Be your own weighmaster: Carry a portable scale with you or use the ones available at market offices to double-check the weight.
    3. Speak up!: If you suspect something fishy, don’t be afraid to speak up and report it to the market authorities.
    4. Reweigh: When in doubt, use the timbangan ng bayan” located at the entrance of the public market.
    5. Support the good guys: Look for vendors who have a good reputation and seem honest.

By following these tips, we can help ensure that everyone gets a fair deal at any Cagayan de Oro City public market.  And that’s something we can all be happy about this holiday season.
